Etching technique à la Union Klischee: from medical technology to promotional items

For around 50 years we at Union-Klischee have been using etching technology to manufacture shaped etched parts for a wide variety of purposes and applications.

A special field of competence of Union-Klischee lies in the production of the smallest conductor tracks for pacemakers or defibrillators and their fixed, reliably insulated arrangement in the IsoLam® process, which we patented.

Material doesn’t matter – Etching technique suitable for all metals

Etching technology enables molded parts to be manufactured from a wide variety of metals with different degrees of hardness. By etching, the workpieces can be provided with predetermined breaking points, bending edges or markings in one pass and without further processing steps. Our work is based on quality management in accordance with the current DIN EN ISO 9001 standard.

At Union-Klischee we process:

Metals

Nickel silver

Stainless steel

Brass

Copper

Bronze

Nickel

Constantan

Etching technology – universal, flexible, fast and inexpensive

From our brief consideration of the current technologies and the weighing of advantages and disadvantages, the universal advantages of etching technology become clear.

In the production of molded parts from sheet metal thicknesses of up to 1.5 mm and fine structuring, the precision, time savings and cost advantages of the etching technology or spray etching technology are unbeatable. The tools, i.e. the photo masks, can be created digitally and at very favorable conditions and adapted at any time – there are no additional tool costs.

Since photochemical etching is suitable for a wide variety of metals and degrees of hardness, the choice of material has almost no influence on the level of costs. The short period of time between design and execution guarantees a quick and efficient implementation of pilot series. Clients benefit from the high flexibility in the case of short-term design changes or design adjustments.

A calculation per sheet opens up the possibility of accommodating different geometries on one sheet in a cost-saving manner. At the end of the etching process, there is a finished product which, due to the lack of burr formation on the workpiece edges, does not require any post-processing and in which the desired inscriptions or identifications may have already been applied in one pass during the etching.

Our spray etching process

This etching process is a photochemical process that enables burr-free and tension-free contours in thin sheets or metal foils by removing material with the highest precision. With the help of etching technology, we can produce special shape-etched parts such as shielding plates, coding disks and model components. In many cases the spray etching process represents an important alternative to punching and laser technology.
